1930 U. S. Census – WPA Abbreviations
While searching through the 1930 U.S. Census you might want to keep a copy of the following list of abbreviations.   These are the ones most commonly used by WPA workers in creating indexes for the nine Southern states (and parts of two others).   Some of these are not immediately obvious…it is only assumed that for less common occupations, the word was simply written out in full.   These come from a number of sources, official and otherwise and there are undoubtedly omissions.

Early Heads of Households prior to 1810
As the East Baton Rouge area was under the dominion of Spain in 1810, and therefore not included in the census that year, this list is printed to give a more accurate compilation of those living within the present-day boundaries of Louisiana during the early part of the nineteenth century.
